The production of the YAK-28 frontline jet-powered supersonic bomber and Us modifications took in total more than 12 years. The Plant manufactured a wide range of modifications of the YAK-28 with different types of equipment, the total number of aircraft built in the bomber, reconnaissance, training and other versions being about 700 pcs. The YAK-28 was the first supersonic aircraft whose production was mastered at the Irkutsk Aircraft Plant. More stringent requirements for the outer contour precision, for the construction strength and stiffness to successfully overcome the sonic barrier — alt these demanded an updating of the aircraft assembly methods, a change of the flight testing programme. The YAK-28 aircraft was adopted by the Air Forces of our country. Some versions of this aircraft are still in operation.
