In the beginning of the second world war (in 1941 to 1943) the Plant started production of medium twin-engine aircrafts PE-2 and PE-3, designed by V. M. Petlyakov. The PE-2 three-seater dive bomber if the first maximally electrified aircraft in the country. Deflection of the control surfaces, retraction and extension of fhe landing gear were effected with the aid of electric motors, This required a creation of special technological systems to develop and adjust electric mechanisms. The PE-2 dive bombers were widely used to attach points of accumulation of enemy's forces, nearest enemy's rear, command posts and other small-size targets, To meet the front demands, fhe Plant manufactured versions of the aircraft: PE-2 fighter-inferceptor and PE-3bis reconnaisance aircraft. During the first three years of fhe war the Plant produced 800 bombers PE-2 and 220 aircrafts, type PE-3 and PE-3bis. These aircrafts were adopted by Czechoslovakia, Poland and Bulgaria.
