The production of the MIG-23UB aircraft, designed by
A. I. Mikoyan, was started at the Plant in 1970 and continued for
about 15 years. The MIG-23UB is a two-seater combat-trainer
version of the light multipurpose all-weather fighter. It was the
first aircraft in the USSR whose wing sweep was changed by fhe
pilot in flight from 16 to 72 deg. depending on the flight
conditions.
Wide range of versions of gun, bomb and missile armament of
this aircraft has made it very popular in units of the Air Forces
where if is used to train pilots in effective usage of different
type of armament. A single-seafer modification of the MIG-27
was manufactured in the fighter-bomber version.
The MIG-23UB aircrafts were delivered to many countries all
over the world such as Angola, Algeria, Bulgaria, Hungary,
Viet-Nam. German Democratic Republic, Egypt, Iraq, India,
Cuba, Syria, North Korea, Libya, Poland, Czechoslovakia.
The aircrafts produced by the Irkutsk Aircraft Plant are notable
for their high quality and reliability in operation.
