Almost sixty years ago, in 1934, an
aircraft-building plant was
constructed in the old town of Irkutsk.
This town was chosen on the basis of
many factors, among which are the
good transport services allowing to
supply the Plant with materials,
pro-fabricated and vendor items
obtained from co-operators in many
regions of the country.
The Trans-Siberian main line,
powerful water transport artery of
the Angara river, airfield already
available at that time, and the wide
network of automobile roads
promoted rapid development of the
Plant and its fitting out with technical
equipment.
Favourable climate with a large
number of sunny days, peculiarity of
the surroundings of the lake Baikal,
romance of aviation - all this created
conditions for continual
replenishment of the Plant's
personnel. Organized in Irkutsk an
aircraft-building faculty at the
Polytechnical Institute, an
aircraft-building technical school, a
Qualification Extending Institute,
and a branch of the Scientific and
Research Institute of Aeronautical
Enginnering (NIAT) supply the Plant
with skilled specialists and allow to
maintain high technical level.
The introduction of new
technologies, automated systems
for the design of constructions and
technological processes,
mathematical methods of
planning and control - all this made :
possible for the Plant to build
modern aircraft and successfully
deliver them to many countries all
over the world. Nowadays the
Plant is one of the enterprises
meeting the world-level
requirements for aircraft
production.
The Irkutsk Aircraft Production
Association disposes of a large
massif of dwelling houses with
green squares, recreation zones.
sport, culture and household
institutions, shops, which adds to
stability of production.
